Werner is the Vice President and CTO at Amazon.com and is in charge of driving technology innovation within the company. Werner’s fingerprints are on many of the big data services available through Amazon Web Services, including Elastic MapReduce, Redshift, and Kinesis. He joined Amazon in 2004 as Director of Systems Research and was named CTO and Vice President in 2005. Prior to joining Amazon, Werner co-founded Reliable Network Solutions and held the positions of CTO and Vice President there as well. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Vrije University in Amsterdam.
