Dr. Yann LeCun, Ph.D., serves as Director of AI Research, Facebook. Dr. LeCun served as Head of the Image Processing Research Department of AT&T Labs-Research since October 1995. He held the positions of research staff member of Bell Laboratories. He was responsible for the development of an adaptive pattern recognition technique called “convolutional neural networks,” which improved the accuracy and simplified the design of pattern classification systems such as handwriting recognizers. He also worked on learning theory and on new algorithms to improve the speed and accuracy of various learning algorithms. He has been Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Deep Genomics Inc. since November 7, 2016. He served as a Member of the Scientific Board of KXEN, Inc. Dr. LeCun served as a Member of the advisory board of Vidient Systems, Inc. Dr. LeCun is Founding Director of the NYU Center for Data Science. Dr. LeCun is Silver Professor of Computer Science, Neural Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Center for Neural Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, NYU School of Engineering at New York University. He has published over 90 technical papers and book chapters on machine learning, computer vision, pattern recognition, handwriting recognition, neural networks, image compression, document understanding, VLSI design and information theory. He is a Fellow of the NEC Research Institute. Dr. LeCun is a graduate with an Engineer Diploma from the Ecole Superieure d’Ingenieurs en Electrotechnique et Electronique, Paris, in 1983 (equivalent to an MSc in EE), and a PhD in Computer Science from Universite Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris in 1987.
