Big Data Career Notes: June 2024 Edition
In this monthly feature, we’ll keep you up-to-date on the latest career developments for individuals in the big data community. John Visenski and Lyndsey Filantres
Sumo Logic, a provider of big data observability solutions, announced two new executive appointments, including the appointment of John Visneski, to CISO, and the appointment of Lyndsey Filantres to the position of SVP of Growth.
Visneski comes to Sumo with more than 15 years of experience in the security trade, with stints in the federal government, entertainment, and healthcare industries. Most recently he led security and integration efforts for MGM Studios, now an Amazon subsidiary. He also served as CISO at Accolade, and director of information security and data protection at Pokémon.
Filantres arrives at Sumo with more than two decades of marketing, brand management and product-led business development experience. She formerly was the SVP of Marketing at Accolade, and she also held positions at GitHub, New Relic, Avalara, and SAP Concur.
“As we continue our focus on efficient growth and deepening our competitive capabilities, it’s crucial to have strong leaders who can inspire and guide us toward our goals. I’m very excited to welcome John and Lyndsey to the Sumo Logic team as they are the perfect additions to round out our executive leadership team,” Sumo Logic President and CEO Joe Kim stated in a press release.
Sebastien Ourselin
PEAK:AIO, a provider of AI-powered storage solutions, has appointed Sebastien Ourselin, who heads the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences at King’s College London, to its advisory board. The Manchester, UK-based company says the move demonstrates its commitment to the future of AI healthcare.
In addition to his academic position, Ourselin is the director of the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering and the AI Centre for Value Based Healthcare. Ourselin is a renowned expert and pioneer in the AI for healthcare sector, and PEAK:AIO says he will be working with the team to drive corporate growth through innovation within the AI healthcare market.
“I am excited to join the Advisory Board at PEAK:AIO and support the company in tailoring storage for AI workloads, particularly addressing the unique challenges within healthcare,” Ourselin stated in a press release. “AI is revolutionizing healthcare, from life-changing diagnostic to interventional approaches, it can be truly transformational for patient health and treatment pathways. To support this innovation, we need robust and intelligent systems.”
Abhijit Dubey
NTT DATA, a global leader in business and technology services, has appointed Abhijit Dubey as its new president and CEO for NTT DATA Inc., which handles the corporation’s business outside its home country of Japan.
Dubey’s promotion follows the finalization of the merger between NTT DATA and NTT Ltd., creating a $30-billion global data and IT powerhouse under the NTT DATA name. Dubey was the CEO of NTT Ltd.
From his office in London, UK, Dubey will lead 150,000 employees worldwide as they accelerate NTT DATA’s growth. NTT DATA has already expanded its international footprint to approximately $18 billion, and has the world’s sixth largest market share in the IT services industry, the company says.
“I am deeply honored to lead the company at a time of major technological change,” Dubey, a 20-year veteran of McKinsey & Company, stated in a press release. “Technology must drive positive change in the world, and I believe that NTT DATA’s broad capabilities in consulting, infrastructure, AI, cloud, and cybersecurity, position us to deliver meaningful impact. I’m privileged to lead a team that is committed to clients and am excited for this next phase of growth.”
Lauren Nagel
Telemetry data platform provider Mezmo this month announced the addition of Lauren Nagel to the team. As vice president of product, Nagel will lead Mezmo’s product team in evolving its telemetry pipeline solution that empowers customers to take control of their data.
Prior to Mezmo, Nagel was the vice president of product at StackHawk, where she played an important role in scaling revenue into the multi-millions of dollars. She also served as a product leader at New Relic, where she oversaw the observability platform.
“Getting meaningful insights from mountains of data is no easy task, yet it is more important and urgent every day,” Nagel said in a press release. “Telemetry pipelines offer tremendous impact and possibility, beyond volume reduction, to make enterprises more responsive and secure. I’m thrilled to be working with the innovative team at Mezmo, leading this exciting new category that’s solving consequential customer problems.”
Myke Lyons
Data observability vendor Cribl has appointed security veteran Myke Lyons to be its new chief information security officer. As CISO, Lyons will focus on building practices, tools, and processes that ensure Cribl keeps its data secure.
Most recently, Lyons was the CISO at Snyk, a developer security startup, and CISO at Collibra, a leader in data governance and catalog software. He also led ServiceNow’s information security group and was brought on board to help secure the cloud startup while creating a mantra of transparency.
“Security is a team sport, and I am committed to growing and maturing the Cribl ‘herd,’” Lyons wrote in a blog post. “We are all growing into the idea that security isn’t just a job for the security team. Maintaining a healthy security posture involves everyone in the company, and we’re in an amazing place. At Cribl, we believe in practicing servant leadership, empowering our teams to excel. It is through their dedication and hard work that we shine.”
Chad Bennett
Teradata, a provider of data warehousing and analytic solutions, has hired Chad Bennett to be its new senior vice president of investor relations and corporate development. Bennett comes to the San Diego, California company from Craig-Hallum Capital, where he was responsible for primary coverage of SaaS and software companies, including Teradata.
“It’s clear that Teradata has unparalleled expertise in data analytics and has an enterprise customer base that is the envy of most software companies,” Bennett stated in a press release. “There is tremendous opportunity ahead of Teradata. I am excited to be joining the team and I look forward to engaging with our investors on the continued growth of Teradata as the most complete cloud analytics and data platform provider for trusted AI.”
Joel Newbert and Ally Olney
Open source data integration and ELT tool provider Airbyte announced the appointments of Joel Newbert as head of finance and
as head of people. Newbert was previously the head of finance of CaptivateIQ and before that at rideOS where he worked with Airbyte co-founder and CEO, Michel Tricot.
“I’m joining Airbyte at a pivotal time in its next growth phase,” Newbert said in a press release. “Revenues are growing at a 10x pace as Airbyte’s differentiated open approach to data movement has proven to be an effective market disruptor, especially with the growing need for data to fuel AI models. Now, users are able to take advantage of hundreds of Airbyte data connectors as the standard for data movement.”
Meanwhile, Olney joins Airbyte with more than a decade of experience building high-performing teams and fostering a culture of inclusivity and innovation, Airbyte says. “People are at the heart of every successful organization, and I am eager to work alongside our exceptional team to cultivate a culture where every individual can thrive and make a meaningful impact,” Olney said.
Earlier in his career, Newbert was a principal at investment firm Silver Lake, and an analyst with Credit Suisse. Over the past seven years, he has been an angel investor in more than 35 companies.
Mihir Shah
Data unification provider Reltio announced that it has hired Mihir Shah to its advisory board. Shay previously was the CIO and head of data architecture and engineering at Fidelity, and he also was affiliated with Ernest & Young, F-Prime Capital, Eight Roads Ventures Europe, and the MIT Sloan School of Management.
“I’ve seen firsthand how fragmented data trapped in siloed applications poses one of the biggest challenges for enterprises today,” Shah stated in a press release. “Having championed and led enterprise-wide data unification and seen it unlock incredible business value, I’m excited to join Reltio’s Advisory Board and contribute to its visionary approach.”
